I posted this on alla for using wide scan to locate the chest:

Ok, for the record, wide scan does NOT help with locating the chest. I was standing next to a mimic (i know because it attacked me) and it did not show up on wide-scan. As the real chest doesn't either, wide-scan is useless.

Happy hunting, this one is tricksy.

Pso'Xja chest hunting:

Easiest way to do this is take a Summoner, have them summon Carbuncle, then go stand next to the chest, do not assault the chest if it aggros or use blood pacts on it, or retreat...do absolutely nothing to get hate. Run far enough away so u cant target the mimik anymore and release carbuncle. The chest will de-aggro after about 1-2 minutes and you can continue searching.
