The Story of the Elvaan Kylin

In the world of Vana’diel, 2 couple meet in a kingdom called San d’Oria by the fountain near the residential area. A maiden named Guenhwyvar, and a lord named Christopher, fell in love at first sight. By the next Fall, the lord gave up his title and married the young maiden. They move from the kingdom to a beautiful place called Windurst, where Mithra and Tarutarus live amongst each other. By the next Spring, the maiden conceived a child and the lord became an adventurer and was always away exploring the world of Vava’diel and fulfilling the Star Sybil’s requests. He came home for events and holidays to see his lovely wife, but he wouldn’t be home by the time she gave birth.

So by the middle of Winter, on a cold and snowy night, Guenhwyvar gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, she named her Kylin. By the Spring festival, Christopher came home to see his beautiful baby Kylin for the first time. She was 4 months old by now. When she looked up at him with her big brown eyes, she smiled and it filled his heart with joy and love.

Guenhwyvar begged him to retire from his adventuring and stay in Windurst to become a professor like Shanttoto did, but he refused convincing his himself that there is still more to Vana’deil that he still hasn’t seen. Not knowing that this next adventure was going to be his last.

By the end of the Spring Festival he was off again on another mission from the Star Sybil. This time he was to explore the deep caves of Sea Serpents Grotto and to report back of his findings. There was room and lodge waiting for him in a small town near by called Norg. But he was to be careful on who to talk to there; the place was filled with pirates. But mysteriously he never made it there. There were rumors he got lost in the cave and ran into the Sea Monk that guarded a treasure in one room.

That was almost 20 years ago when I lost my father. My mother was heart broken when she found out what happened. She is 40 years old now and still in pain from the loss of her beloved Christopher. She goes and visits Doctor Shanttoto every now and then, though she leaves a very sour taste in my mouth every time I find out she’s there. But if it makes her happy, then I’m ok with it.

Ever since I was the age of 10 years old, I always listened in on all the adventurers and professor’s tales of how they defeated so and so. I became fascinated with their stories and now and then snuck into the tavern and ease-dropped on some adventurer’s tales. They were always filled with fun and excitement that I wanted to hear more of the tale when suddenly I was grabbed by the color of my shirt and was taken home to my mother who would reprimand me for even listening in on these stories. She hated the idea of me becoming an adventurer after loosing my father the way she did.
On my 20th birthday, I decided to go outside the Windurst walls and take a look first hand on what was going on. I was always told it was dangerous but I didn’t care. I found it exciting just as I always have when I heard the stories. It was then I made up my mind to become an adventurer. Nothing my mother could say would stop me. I wanted to see the world just as my father had and then more. I wanted to complete what he started. And that was to see all of Vana’deil.

When I told my mother this, she was heart broken. I told her that I would be back in between missions that the Star Sybil would ask of me to do and what little quests that the townsmen would ask me to do for them for small rewards. She had nothing to do but to let me go and see for myself what things were like outside of Windurst.

By that next Spring, I geared up and met up with some of the gate guards who sent me to the Orastery for my first mission. They said it was an easiest one they could give me seeing I was just starting off, but it was a dangerous one. I had to go to the Horutoto Ruins and find Ajido. So it was no big deal, the mission was close to home so I only brought a little supplies with me as I could return home any day to restock what I needed. By mid morning I was finally off on my first adventure.

More to come...

Chapter 2

Well I was on my way to the eastern tower of the Horutoto Ruins. Traveling through West Sarutabaruta, I notice a lot of Bumblebees and Savanna Rarabs around. I also ran into some trouble from goblins and yagudos. They were easy to take out. But they sure did hurt me. I had to stop every now and then to heal up. Wishing I would have known about these things that lurked about the outside of the Windurst walls. Now I truly understand why my mother forbade me to go out of the gates at such a young age. But that didn’t stop me this time.

I reached the entrance of the Horutoto Ruins and decided to rest a bit before entering. I sat down and opened up my sack that held my food. I unwrapped a Meat Mithkabob and began to chow down. It was getting pretty late in the evening so I decided to take a quick look inside the very entrence of the Ruin before I set up camp near by. When I entered, I was greeted by bats flying around the first room. I had no idea if they would agro me, so I carefully snuck up on them. When I reached one group, I noticed that they would not attack. Further I went in, I reached a hallway and I was slowly and silently walking through it. When I reached the end, I peeked around the corners and found that there were goblins around. Now I knew what I had to deal with when I go looking for Ajido tomorrow. I decided to head back up the stairs and out side to set up my camp before it got too late.

I had found a tree near by and I built my fire about 10 feet away from it. I quickly unpacked my bags and set up my sleeping bag. I brought out my cooking utensils and food to prepare. I made some Beaugreen Sautee and some Yagudo drinks made from the Yagudo Cherries and Buburimu Grapes found in Buburimu Peninsula. For dessert, I made myself a Melon Pie. Oh how delicious this dinner was. I’m glad I took studies from Kipo-Opo in Windurst Waters.

By the next morning the fire had died and the coldness was being chased away by the rising sun. I felt a little better after that night’s rest after traveling most of the way to the ruins without stopping. I had opened my eyes and to my surprise I found a tiny Mandragora was sifting through my things. I was completely unaware of me waking up. The Mandy picked up a shiny object from one of the pockets from my backpack and held it up against the light. The sun reflected off of it at me and nearly blinded me. I instantly knew what it was and got up so fast and shot over towards the Mandy, snatching the object away from it. The Mandy, in complete terror, fell back hard against the ground. It stared at me in complete silence and it was shaking from my quick movements. I stared at it for a moment or two, then turned and looked at the object in my hand. When I looked back at the Mandy, it was gone. It fled from fear of me. I looked back at the shiny object; it was a locket that my father had given me when I was only 4 months old, before he left for the journey that he never returned home from. I opened it up and stared at the pictures, it was a picture of him and my mother. And on the back of the locket, it was engraved. It read, “My pride and joy.” I slipped the necklace around my neck and fastened it. It was the only treasure I had that reminded me of my father.

I turned back towards the camp and went over to my nap sack; I opened it up and pulled out some oats that were dipped in honey. I took a couple of handfuls and ate them. Then I proceeded to pack up my belongings and headed into the Horutoto Ruin.

When I entered the ruins, I heard the familiar sound of the bats. I went down the stairs and into the first room. Then I turned right and headed down the long hall towards the next huge hallway, to where the goblins I seen yesterday was. Every one I came across tried to attack me. I fought and killed them all. I searched for the magical gizmo that I was told was broken, and when I found it, I marked on the map where it was. All of a sudden a floating bomb comes out and starts to attack me. I drew my daggers and fought will all my might. When I was about to collapse from exhaustion, the bomb explodes killing itself and almost killed me. The force of it pushes me back against the wall. I tried to grab a hold of the torch that hung on the wall, but for some reason it shifted downwards. Then next to it, the wall opened up and there was a hallway that led to another open room.

When I regained my balance, I entered the room where another gizmo was. I heard voices within the room. Ajido was there with his sister. They were arguing about something but I couldn’t tell what. I moved in closer to listen. It appeared that Ajido was working on an experiment, but the Magic Orb was broken. Ajido noticed me and told me to grab the orb and take it back to the Orastery to Hakkuru-Rinkuru to have it fixed.

When I left the Horutoto Ruins, it was mid day. I hurried home as fast as my Elvaan legs would carry me. I reached the gates of Windurst and spoke with the guards at the gate. I told them of what I had seen and what I have learned. They instructed me to return the orb to the Orastery at once.

I reached the Orastery and found that Hakkuru-Rinkuru was waiting for me. He took the orb and paid me 5,000 gil for my work. He told me he might need my help again in the future so I was to stay around in town and help out the towns’ people as they needed.

I returned to my Mog House only to learn that my mother was, yet again, at Doctor Shanttoto’s Manor again. I raced over there to tell of my adventure, but Doctor Shanttoto just laughed at me saying fighting goblins and bombs were just child’s play. She bragged that she could make them blow up with just a look at them. This I did not care for and it made me feel under her. Sometimes I could just sit there and cry at her dispense.

I shall have my fun…

Chapter 3

While sitting in Windurst Woods by the fountain, waiting for my next mission, I met up with some old friends from childhood. Three Mithras walked up to me and started to talk to me. They talked about how they liked so and so, and how they were doing with their lives. Normal girl talk was all it was. Then the subject of the “Cat Burgerler” came up and it caught my attention. They told how she could sneak in and still things then sneak out unnoticed. They also told that there was a small group of children that were gathering up to ban against her. They called themselves “The Star Onion Brigade”. I chuckled at the thought of these children taking on a full grown Mithra. I asked questions about how this “Burgerler” came about, and where could I find her. They told me just passed the Dhamel Farm.

After a few minutes of chatting with them, I decided to go up and check this “Cat Burgerler” out myself. When I found her I asked her of her real name, she said it was Nanaa Mihgo. She told me stories about how she was a thief adventurer and how she was the best. This fascinated me. After talking for a few, I decided to take leave of her and think about her stories.

By mid afternoon, I became bored and frustrated that the Star Sybil has not yet contacted me for more missions. I decided to head outside the Windurst gates and go explore more of West Sarutabaruta. I went down to the cliffs by the ocean to think. I sat down and stared off into a daze while people were fishing around me. All of a sudden, this crab started to come at me and it readied its claws. I turned my head at it for a second and was terrified. I put my arm up to block the blow and closed my eyes hoping for the best when all of a sudden I heard a loud thud and the crab collapse below me. I opened my eyes and saw a handsome young Elvaan male standing above me. He was holding a staff in one hand and his other was reached out for mine. He helped me up and said, “That was a close one”. He introduced himself as Obsidian. I teased him saying “You’re a rock?” He chuckled and said he got that a lot. He asked my name and I told him. Then he took me over to a high rock and sat down with me and we started talking. He told me he studies the art of black magic. I instantly thought of Doctor Shanttoto and how snobby she is. But this guy was not like her. He was kind. When I told him I did not know what art I wanted to study in, we started talking about pros and cons about each job. This gave me an insight on what I wanted to be.

When dusk came, we walked back to Windurst and said our farewells at the gate. When I returned home, I could not stop thinking about him. I told my mom about my meeting with him and she thought it was silly of me to even bother with people like him. Then I reminded her about Doctor Shanttoto and she gave me a blank gaze. She was shocked that I reprimanded her about seeing Shanttoto.

When the next morning came, I decided to go back to the gate guards to see if the Star Sybil had a mission for me. Just like yesterday, there was nothing. I slowly walked down to the fountain and sat down watching the water flow by. I stared at my reflection in the water and was thinking on what I had done to become what I was today. Then another figure appeared in the water behind mine. It was that Elvaan that I had met yesterday. I turned around quickly and stood up, surprised to see him. He asked if I would walk with him for a while and I happily obliged. We talked about our childhoods and I told him how I never got to know my father. Then he told me that he was raised by Yoran-Oran and that his parents died on their passage from San d’oira. He was found by Yoran-Oran by a river, shivering in fear. He took him in and taught him everything he knows now about the art of black magic.

I asked him if he would like to come and have dinner with me and meet my mother. He quickly said yes and we quickly walked to my house. When we arrived, I had learned from my Moogle that my mother was having dinner over at Doctor Shanttoto’s Manor. I sighed and told him to come with me. When we arrived at Doctor Shanttoto’s place, she opened the door and quickly welcomed Obsidian in. It seemed that she admired Obsidian because he was studying her favorite subject. They talked for hours on spells and what he had accomplished. My mother quickly warmed up to him and began to tell stories of my father.

By the end of the night I bade Shanttoto good night and headed out the door. Quickly I was met by Obsidian and he offered to walk me home. My mother was going to stay the night so me and my Moogle were to have the night alone at home. When we reached my door, he told me how pretty I looked in the moon light. I noticed the moon shined off of his dark hair. A glow enlightened his face as he smiled softly at me. I fell in love with him at that moment. I smiled back at him as he slowly leaned in for a kiss. His lips were soft against mine. The tenderness of it made my knees week and it felt like I melted into his arms. When the kiss broke, he bade me good night and went home.

Chapter 4

The next morning came and I found my mother home cleaning the Mog House. I went into the kitchen and fixed me some breakfast and then headed into the shower. I dressed myself in a Kenpogi and Sitabakis. I slipped on my shoes and headed out to the gate guards hoping for another mission. To my luck, they had a mission for me. They told me to report to the Manustery and talk to Apururu there for my briefing.

When I arrived, Apururu told me to head back to the Horutoto Ruins to place 6 dark orbs in 6 Ancient Magic Gizmos and bring back the old orbs to her. She told me that those orbs are used for the hearts of the Cardians that help protect our city. She also told me to talk to Pore-Ohre at the entrance of the ruins before I entered. She handed me the 6 dark orbs in a pouch and told me to take care.

I ran home and started to pack my bag for the journey, then all of a suddenly, there as a knock at my door. I opened it up and there was Obsidian. He told me he had been sent on a mission to Jeuno and that he won’t be back for at least a week. I told him of my mission too and he wished me luck.

When I reached the Horutoto Ruins, I talked to Pore-Ohre and he gave me the instructions on how to place the orbs. I ran down and found more goblins down there. I killed all that got in my way and replaced all the orbs in the Ancient Magic Gizmos. When I returned to the surface, I heard voices. It seemed that the evil Cardians were talking to Pore-Ohre, demanding for the orbs. When I appeared, they noticed that I had the orbs in my pouch and demanded them or else they would kill me. Pore-Ohre told me to give them to them and he will take full responsibility for what happened. When the Cardians left, he told me to return to Apururu for my reward.

Upon returning to Apururu, she gave me 5,000 gil and told me not to worry about the orbs. She told me that the Cardians only steal the other Cardians’ hearts to power themselves. They are the ones who had gone rouge and disobeyed their creators. When she dismissed me, I felt so bad about what happened. I decided to make it my sworn duty to get back at those Cardians.

I returned home and thought about my day. Then I remembered that Obsidian said he wouldn’t be home for a whole week. What on earth was I going to do without him around? Well we will just have to take this day by day I guess.

We shall see….

Chapter 5

As the days go on, I become anxious to hear from my beloved Obsidian. I await patiently by the gates for his return, but with no luck. I became very lonely and sad, but my mother assures me that it’s only natural that I become this way.

I stopped off and talked to the gate guards to see if there was a mission for me. They sent me back to the Optistery to talk to Tosuka-Porika. He tells me to find a book called The Book of the Gods for him. Legend tells that this book has been lost for years, since the wars. Tosuka believes that the book might have fallen into the hands of Nanaa Migho. It was my job to retrieve it from her.

When I heard Nanna’s name mentioned, I knew at once that I was going to have a hard time getting this book from her. When talking to her the other day, I realized she was a cleaver little cat. This time I get to see her work first handed. I sure hope I see through her games.

I ran to Windurst Woods as fast as my long legs could carry me to meet up with this tricky “Cat Burgerler”. When I caught up with her, she was on her way out. She told me to get something from her in the Maze of Shakhrami. She handed me a Lapis Monocle and tells me that it will help me find the item she needs. Then she told me to meet her at her home with the item and she will give me the book.

So now my adventure begins. I ran home and packed up my bags for a long trip. It was going to take me a couple of days to get to the maze and back to the Horutoto Ruins. So I packed plenty of food and clothes to change into. I also consulted with Professor Yoran-Oran about the maze and he hands me some Silent Oils to get passed the Scorpions and Worms, and some Prism Powders for the Goblins. I hope these work.

I set out for the long journey. All I could think about was Obsidian and how his journey was going. It must be very exciting going to Jeuno and meeting the Archduke. I only heard stories of the best adventures meeting him. Obsidian must be one of the best. I thought of the night before he left. The kiss we shared that night. It seemed like he casted a spell on me that I could not resist when I looked into his eyes. My heart beated faster while thinking about it.

Before I realized it, I was at the end of East Sarutabaruta about to cross into Tahrongi Canyon. The sun was going down and I decided to camp here for the night because Tahrongi Canyon was nothing but a desert wasteland. I searched for firewood and build myself a fire. I unpacked my sleeping bags and cooking utensils once again and unwrapped my knapsack with my food. I began cooking up a small meal when all of a sudden I heard something rustle in the bushes near by. I picked up my small sword and got up very slowly. Creeping towards the bushes, the thing growled. Then something popped out of the bush. It was a Goblin! He pounced at me trying to swipe me with his dagger. I dodged the attack and turned quickly to face him. He drew near quite quickly and swiped at me again. This time he sliced open my leg. Not feeling the pain just yet, I fought back with all my might. I swung my sword at him trying to hit him but he dodged almost every attack. Finally I was able to thrust my sword in his chest. He fell to the ground with a loud thud. He was dead at last. I took my sword out of him and turned from his dead body back towards the camp fire. The pain in my leg grew. I limped back and plopped down on the ground next to the fire. I took a look at the cut on my leg. It wasn’t deep; I took some herbs and rubbed them against it. Then I bandaged it up with some gauze and returned to my cooking.

I slept lightly that night. Being very cautious of what was around me. Normally these goblins traveled alone, but there has been talk of them wandering around in groups of 3 or 4. Even with the slightest noise from the wind blowing through the trees, I woke up and looked around. I was not about ready to be ambushed while sleeping.

When morning broke. I awoke and started to fix myself some breakfast. I made some eggs and galka sausage. Then took some popotos and cut them up into chunks for some hash browns. Then I started to pack up and find the river to fill my canteens with water. Seeing I was going into Tahrongi Canyon, I would need as much water as I could carry. When I reached the river, I saw some adventurers fishing for their meals. I filled my canteens and then started for the canyon.

I got to the Creg in Tahrongi Canyon and I found a Elvaan female with some chocobos. I stopped and asked her for directions to the maze. She told me go Northeast past the huge bones. She offered me a chocobo but I refused. Seeing the Maze wasn’t too far away, I had no use of the chocobo. I bade her farewell and went on my way.

It got very late very fast. Once I reached the entrance to the cave, I decided to stop and camp. I had to be very careful while camping here because undead liked to show up around the cave. I set up my camp and sat in front of the fire thinking about my mother and Shantotto and them having a delisious meal made by Shantotto. I could hear their laughing at jokes and people about what they did that day or what they were wearing. I could also hear about how Shantotto wants my mom to convince me into taking a break off of adventuring and study the arts of black magic and become a black mage like herself. One thing is for certain, I did not want to become like her.

Once morning hit, I entered the cave. I took out the Lapis Monocle that Nanaa gave me and then used a Prism Powder and Silent Oil. I followed the Lapis Monocle to a place with huge rocks and scorpions all around. I found the item that Nanaa was looking for. It turned out to be a Lapis Coral. I realized that my oil was wearing so I quickly reached inside my bag and pulled out another one and used it. Then I ran back through the maze and out the entrance.

By the time I got outside, it was mid afternoon. I sat down and pulled out some Meat Mithkabobs and began to eat my lunch. I watched as adventures were excavating the bones that laid in the front of the maze and I engaged in a conversation with one of them. It was a Galka who was from the city of Bastok. I heard about the place and I was interested in his tales about his home town and his adventures. I learned that his name was Derek and that he was currently staying in Windurst for a while. He was out in Tahrongi Canyon looking for items that maybe worth some gil in Windurst. I realized it was getting late and I wanted to reach the Creg by night fall. I bade my farewells to him and took off towards the Creg.

By the time I reached the Creg, it was getting late. I asked the lady there if I could camp there for the night and she quickly said yes. So I sat up camp again and had my dinner, then quickly went to sleep. I wanted to be up early tomorrow and be at Windurst by nightfall.

When morning broke, I fixed my breakfast and then packed up. I hurried up and started home. By the time I got there it was late at night. I realized that everyone was asleep so I went home. I quietly opened the door and sat my things down. Then I quickly went to the bathroom to take a shower and then got ready for bed. I fell asleep on the couch so I didn’t wake anyone up by opening my bedroom door. I dreamed of Obsidian and how it was just to see him again. I ached for his touch. I wished he was home again holding me tightly.

By the next morning I got up and got dressed before my Moogle or my mother woke up. I headed out to Nanaa’s house but ran into some of my old friends on the way there. They offered to buy me breakfast. We went to the Tavern and had some scrambled eggs and Galka Sausage. Then some San d’Orian Tea to wash it all down. We talked for a few hours then I realized I had to go to Nanaa’s house to get the book. I quickly left the Tavern and made my way to Windurst Woods.

When I got there, I found Nanaa waiting for me outside her house. She asked me if I got the coral and then gave me a key to her secret hideout and directions on how to get there. When she told me it was deep inside the Horutoto Ruins, I sighed and thought to myself, “Great, I have to go back there”. She told me to come alone and bring the coral, and she will give me the book there.

After heading back to my house, I found my mother doing my laundry from the last travels. When I told her I had to go out to the ruins again, she sighed and wished that I could stay home for at least a full week before going off for another adventure. I told her that the Summer Festival was coming up soon, and that I will be able to stay home for the festivities. I promised her that this mission wouldn’t take me but two days at the most. She gave a slight smile and said that she will be waiting for me.

After packing my bags, I headed out for the Horutoto Ruins yet again. As I was running through East Sarutabaruta, I noticed some adventures grouping up to kill a couple of yagudos. They invited me to come along to help them, but I refused. I remembered I had a mission to do and I was not going to stop until it was done.

Reaching the Horutoto Ruins this time took less time than it did before. When I went through the cracked wall, I made my way past undead and goblins. I had to go West than North through the passage until I came upon a Mahogany Door. I used the key that Nanaa gave me. The door creaked open as I turned the handle and pushed on it.

When entering, two mithras approached me, Bopa and Cha. They were the disiples of Nanaa Migho. Behind them, was Nanaa herself, bent over a table and looking at something. Then she looked up at me and approached. Then she demanded for the coral and everything in my bag. I gave her the coral but not my bag. She demanded for it again, her disiples were closing in on me, their claws were drawn. I held my breath and closed my eyes. Just then, voices came calling. It was three Ace Cardians. Had they followed me? After running into them before, I would not want to engage in a battle with them.

They were looking for the lifeforce of their leader and they thought Nanaa knew where it was. She told them it was in the “House of the Hero” in Windurst Walls. The Cardians decided to kill Nanaa and her disiples plus me because we knew their secret of what they were searching for. Just as the were closing in on us, a bright flash appeared over their heads followed by fire all about them. It was Ajido-Marujido who casted a spell on them that set them all on fire. He runs over to me asking if I was alright. I nodded. Then he turns to Nanaa and asks her where the Book of the Gods was. She quickly told him that she hid it in the “House of the Hero” and showed him they key to the door. He snatched the key from her and took off running. I ran after him in persuit.

When I reached the house, I gently turned the door-knob and entered. There was Ajido holding a book in his hands. He was about to open it when he turned around and saw me in the doorway. He was surprised that I followed him there. But it made no difference; he opened up the book and discovered that all the pages were blank. His expression on his face was horrifying. He told me that if the pages are blank, then the end of the world was coming. He told me to return back to the Optistery and tell Tosuka what was discovered.

Tosuka wasn’t sure if the book had lost its powers or if the legend was true. He asked me not to mention this to anyone, not even to my mother. Then told me to stand-by and wait for more orders.

When I returned home, I found my mother sitting with my moogle at the dinner table. When she saw me, she quickly got up and fixed me a plate of her best Juicy Mutton and some Chocomilk. After dinner I got up and took a shower then headed for bed. As I laid in bed, I thought to myself about Nanaa Migho and her cleaver theft ness, I decided to follow in her footsteps and become a thief myself. With that thought I fell asleep to. Tomorrow I would get up and visit Nanaa at her home to ask her to teach me the ways of the thief.

How sneaky can I be?

Chapter 6

A few days after my last adventure, I awoke with the smell of Galkan Sausage cooking on the stove. I rose out of my bed and slipped on my slippers. I walked out into the living room and sat down at the dining room table and saw that the paper was lying in front of me. I picked it up and started to read. It seemed that Nanaa Migho was, yet again, on the front page. I quickly read through the article and the news of her stealing The Book of the Gods and how she somehow managed to escape the accusations. I put the paper down and looked at my mother and she plated the sausage next to my eggs and then poured me a glass of Orange Juice.

After I finished my breakfast, I got up and cleaned my plate and glass. I walked into the bedroom and grabbed my clothes I was going to wear that day, and then headed to the bathroom to take my shower. While in the shower, I thought about Obsidian and remembered that this was the day of his return. This was also the starting day of the “Sun Breeze Festival”. Great! I thought. I can wear my swim suit for him in the day time, and my Lady Akiton in the night time. We could spend our nights together watching the fireworks and dancing next to the fountain. And in the day time, we could go goldfish scooping and sit next to the fountain and talk about our adventures.

Once I made sure I was ready to go out, I slipped on my sandals and headed for the door. The weather was clear and hot. It was so bright outside that I ran back inside to grab my shaded spectacles. I took a deep breath and admired the decorations the Tarutarus and Mithras put up during the night. I couldn’t wait too see them tonight when they would light up for the first time this year.

I headed towards the fountain where I found my friends hanging out and talking. They were all wearing their swim suits and soaking their feet in the river below the bridge. They motioned me to join them. I sat down next to Rachel and took off my sandals and slipped my feet in the water. It was cool and relaxing. We started to talk about various things and then they turned to me and asked how my adventuring was going. I smiled and said it was great. The other lands were defiantly something they should see one of these days.

We were sitting there for a while when all of a sudden, a familiar male voice spoke to us,

“Good afternoon ladies,” he said.

We turned our heads in the direction it came from, it was Obsidian! My love had returned home. The girls smiled and said hello. He smiled back at them then focused his attention on me. His eyes shined with the reflection from the water. I put my sandals on and stood up to hug him. Then I turned to the girls and bade them farewell and walked off with him. I asked him how is mission went and he said it was a lot harder than he thought. The Grand Duke of Jeuno was someone whom he didn’t care for and wished he’d never met. Then he asked how my mission went. I told him of Nanaa Migho and how I decided to study to become a thief like her. And that I wanted her to teach me everything she knew. He laughed and teased me because I wanted to be come an “Elvaan Burgerlar” as he put it.

As the sun settled, the celebration began. I departed from Obsidian for the time being so I could get ready for the evening’s festivities. I entered my house and found my Ladies Akiton waiting for me on the back of the chair. My mother spent all day putting the finishing touches on it for tonight. I took it and ran into my bedroom and slipped on a pair of slacks and the akiton. It was lavender with a bit of a pink. It was the best akiton my mother has ever made for me.

I stepped outside into the night and walked to middle of Windurst Woods. The Tarutarus gathered around the fountain and began to play their music and dance around. I brought my Summer Fan with me and found my friends dancing around. I joined them. Everyone was lighting off different kinds of fireworks that the Alchemist Guild provided. When the sun was completely down, the sky lit up with bright colors. “The festival in the Sky” some people would call it.

I danced around and had some fun for a while when Obsidian caught my eye. He was wearing a pair of slacks and a Lord’s Akiton. The akiton was blue and it brought out his eyes. He walked over to us and smiled. The girls were happy to see him surprisingly and motioned him to dance with us.

After dancing for about an hour, he took my hand and led me away from the festivities. We walked outside the gates and to the river. We sat down near a bank and began to watch the fireworks. He told me he would be leaving again in a couple of days again for another mission. He was to see the Duke again and this time he thinks the mission was going to be very dangerous. I took his hand in mine and looked deeply into his eyes. I told him that I will be waiting for him when he returns. He smiled and said softly to me, “You will always keep waiting for me. I never had someone who cared for me as much as you do.”

The breeze began to blow softly through my hair and the moon light was making his eyes glow even more than before. He leaned in for a kiss. I closed my eyes and I felt his soft lips touch mine very gently. Then he looked at me. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a little tiny box and handed it to me. I opened it up and there was a little white gold ring inside. On the ring was engraved “I promise to love you and to marry you.” I looked at him in disbelief and he smiled. He took the ring and placed it on my finger. Then kissed me again.

We were to be married…
