Since we recently had to re-form our linkshell again, I thought it would be good to re-post this where we all can easily find it for a couple days. Especially for those who have joined our linkshell since Christmas time when Chainspell Last played. There had been some discussion amongst some leaders about creating rules and such for our shell, but I truly think Chain has it already laid out for who we want to be. I am going to only suggest a couple tweaks (current members and leaders let me know what you think of my adds) and i'm going to grey out the rules/explanations Chainspell made that since have no bearing on our shell.
PS my adds are in green
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: What is our linkshell name?
A: Our linkshell has a very long history that dates back since the North American release of FFXI. Our first name was WindurstShell, then it became TheWindurstShell. And years later we created TheSandoriaShell and then TheBastokShell. After awhile we merged the 3 linkshells into what was called TheThreeNations. Now our linkshell is called Honor. So our plan is to progress to other character traits like Friendship, Love, Strength, etc.
(I plan on using this idea again at some point, maybe for specialty shells etc.)
Q: What about the linkshell limit?
A: In FFXIV there is a limit of 128 members, this would not be a problem if they meant 128 online members. But from what I can see looking at the linkshell interface, it looks like what they meant was 128 total members. So our plan is to subdivide later on.
Q: What will be our linkshell server?
A: Rabanastre
Q: What will be our starting city?
A: Everyone is free to choose whichever starting city they like best. We will arrange for alternate characters to live in every city to give out linkpearls.
Q: What is our primary timezone?
A: Our linkshell welcomes all players from all across the globe. We have a lot of players who play in various times of the day. So everybody is welcome. But the current majority of members from our linkshell in FFXI are from North America, Canada and Europe.
Q: What type of linkshell are we?
A: In FFXI our linkshell was mainly a social linkshell, one of the biggest in the server. We did try and do some end game stuff, but due the lack of leadership support it was never implemented to full extent. In FFXIV we would like to change that, we will be doing end-game events when it is time. But our linkshell will start primarily as a social linkshell.
Q: What is important to our linkshell?
A: Our linkshell prides itself for placing more value on the person behind the character, rather than the character itself. Dignity, kindness, honesty and respect are more important to us than ranks, levels or gear.
Q: What is the purpose of our linkshell?
A: To create a place that players can call home.
Q: Who are the officers of our linkshell?
A: Initially, all pearlsacks from FFXI will be offered a chance to become an officer with some exceptions. We do not feel that players who have spent years as a pearlsack in FFXI should lose their title.
Q: What qualities are we looking for in officers?
A: Loyalty, Prudence, Honesty, Kindness, Spirit, Respect and Industriousness are some of the traits that are important to us.
Q: What are the responsibilities of an officer?
A: Enforce the rules. Invite new members. Give advice to the linkshell owner.
Q: What are my responsibilities as a member?
A: To follow the rules and respect the linkshell.
Q: What are the rules of the linkshell?
A: We have lifted the 2 rules: no swearing and no shouting. It will be the decision of the end-user if they want to enable or disable the chat filter. Instead of these 2 rules, we will have 1 general rule. To respect other members.
Also, it should go without saying we should all refrain from talking poorly about other linkshells and their members in our shell chat just as what we do in our shell should not be discussed with members of outside linkshells.
Q: What happens if I break the rules?
A: In a form of moderation, an officer will send you a message. If you do not stop, you will be kicked off the linkshell for a set amount of time.
Q: Can I get back in after being kicked?
A: The only officers allowed to re-invite you back in, is the linkshell owner and the officer who kicked you. Any officer who knowingly breaks this rule will lose their status as an officer.
Q: How can I get banned?
A: Although we do not wish anyone to get banned from the linkshell. Certain individuals will not be a proper fit for our linkshell. When this occasion arises, there will be a vote in the forums by pearlsack members. If the majority decides to take action, then the player will be added to the banned list. 75% or 3/4ths will constitute a majority.
Q: I'm not sure I'm going to play FFXIV for awhile/ I've stopped playing I'd like to stay a moogle but not be a 'dead' person in shell what should I do?
A:
If you are a non-leader, let a leader know that you are taking a break, and for how long. If you are unsure if you are coming back we *might* break your pearl until you come back. All you need to do to get back in shell if you start playing again is PM a leader. We want you in the shell. We just need the room for recruits if you go inactive for longer than a month. Let me repeat if you go on a long break and we ask to break your pearl/ or for you to drop it, it's not because we don't want you or consider you a member, we just need room. Leaders talk to KK. When you start playing again, you can use forums or pm's to get your crest back. (Keep in Mind, even Chainspell the FOUNDER who's on an undetermined break doesn't have a ls pearl currently and if he showed up in Uldah tomorrow, he'd be welcomed back.)
Q: Am I allowed to have other linkshells?
A: Yes.
Q: What should I do if I'm in another Linkshell and they do not want me to be a member of Moogles/other linkshells?
A. PM A Moogle leader to discuss the situation. Depending on what happened/what the other linkshells membership requirements are it MAY be possible for you to chat with that leader and Kinsey in party chat to alleviate some conserns allowing you to keep your dual ls memberships. Sadly though, many of our servers linkshells are making people choose their shell over all others. Do what works best for you.
Q: Will there be linkshell meetings?
A: Yes. We will have a linkshell meeting once a month. But attendance is not mandatory. We will provide some way for others who can't attend to be able to read or watch those meetings.
I'd prefer every 2-3 months.
Q: Will there be officer's meetings?
A: Yes. Although this will only be held when the need arises.
Q: What is the affiliation of our linkshell to FFXIV Tactics?
A: Both are separate entities. But most likely in the future, both will be closely associated with each other.
Q: What is the affiliation of our linkshell to Linkshells.com?
A: Linkshells.com is our website. We have closed down the linkshell registration to the general public.
Q: Does our linkshell have Ventrilo?
A: Yes. Our hostname is aluminum.typefrag.com, and the port number is 34704.
Q: What are the rules in Ventrilo?
A: No rules, just respect other members.
Q: Am I required to talk in Ventrilo?
A: No. But if you can install ventrilo to hear the conversation, it would make it much easier and faster to communicate.
Q: Does our linkshell have a website?
A: Yes. It is on this site.
http://www.linkshells.com
Q: Does our linkshell have an offline chatroom?
A: Yes.

Added (09/30/10):
Q: Why create multiple linkshells?
A: Because our linkshell is becoming too popular to fit in one linkshell. The member limit is 128.
Q: Will each linkshell have a different theme or special function like endgame?
A: No. The only thing that will be different is the linkshell name and the current members. We can all do endgame together, we can all adventure together and roleplay together.
Q: How can we communicate with other members on a different linkshell?
A: Only players who have a linkpearl to both linkshells will be able to see both linkshell chats in game. But we can globally communicate through the website, the chatroom or ventrilo.
Q: Can I become a member of more than 1 of our multiple shells?
A: No. The reason being that it defeats the purpose of trying to create more room. Officers can have a maximum of two shells.
Q: What happens if my friend wants to join my linkshell but it's full?
A: We have implemented a cap system. Each linkshell is capped at 100 out of 128 members. This is to accommodate for future members that need to be in the same linkshell as their friends. This will require an approval from the linkshell owner. But at 120 members the linkshell is closed and you will have two options. #1: Your friend will have to go to a different linkshell. or #2: Both you and your friend can move to a linkshell that is not full yet.
Q: Can I move between linkshells?
A: Yes. As long as the linkshell has room. But you will need to leave your current linkshell. We ask that you do not move linkshells often as it takes time to go through this process.
Q: I am an officer, do I keep my title when I move linkshells?
A: Yes.
Q: Do we have a main linkshell?
A: No. There is no main linkshell, each linkshell is an extension of the other. We are all a part of one big community. We will discourage competition between linkshells, except for future friendly competitions. However, we will strongly encourage cooperation and friendship between linkshells.
With excitement building as FINAL FANTASY XIV Version 2.0 draws near, we at the community team have decided that now would be an ideal time to
